CITY OF SAVANNAH
POLICE DEPARTMENT
The City of Savannah is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. This position is under the general supervision of the Chief of Police and direct supervision of the shift Sergeant. Interested applicants must submit an Application for Employment, which is available for pick up at Savannah City Hall, 140 Main Street, Savannah, Tennessee between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, except holidays. Applications may also be downloaded via the City of Savannah website: cityofsavannah.org. Applications will be accepted beginning February 1 and accepted until positions are filled. A complete job description, including essential functions required to perform this job, is available at Savannah City Hall, and will be distributed with each application. Starting pay is dependent on qualifications and education. Benefits include, but are not limited to, Christmas and training bonuses, employer paid medical insurance, private retirement 401(k) plan with up to 8% dollar for dollar match, and dental/vision insurance. The City of Savannah will be offering a $1,000 signing bonus for applicants possessing a bachelor’s degree, and a $1,500 signing bonus for applicants who possess a valid POST certification. The signing bonus will be paid using a staggered payment system with the balance paid within 6 months. Those employees residing within Hardin County, or within 5 miles from the Hardin County line in an adjoining Tennessee county, will receive a take home vehicle.
Applicants must be able to pass a written examination, oral interview board, physical examination, drug screen, psychological examination, and pass an extensive background investigation, including driving, credit, and criminal histories. Candidates with a felony record, serious misdemeanors involving moral turpitude, or without a valid driver’s license need not apply. The successful applicant must be able to work holidays, weekends, and regular shift work, which includes both day and night shift work.
