FAQs


Q: Who do I contact about my garbage collection?

A: Garbage collection is provided by Waste Connections. Billing is handled by the Savannah Utility Department (731) 925-4216.

Q: Where do I apply for utility services?

A: Water, gas and sewer services are provided by the Savannah Utility Department (731) 925-4216. Electric services are provided by Tennessee Valley Electric Cooperative (731) 925-4916.

Q: Does the city participate in a tax relief program?

A: Yes. The State of Tennessee sponsors a tax relief program that is designed to help the elderly and disabled. For qualifications or more information call (731) 925-6808.

Q: What is the city tax rate?

A: .70 cents per $100 of assessment

Q: If I sell my business will my license transfer to the new owner?

A: No. You must file a final business license report within 15 days of selling your business. The new owner must then apply for a business license in their name.

Q: Are businesses required to have a business license?

A: Yes. A business owner has 20 days after opening a business to apply for a business license without penalty.

Q: Does the city have a leash law?

A: Savannah’s ordinance is in compliance with Tennessee Law. Dogs and cats do have to be vaccinated and wear a collar with tags indicating current vaccinations. Owners are responsible for their animals and the animals actions if they stray from the owners property. Female animals in heat and animals considered vicious are not allowed to run loose. Animal Control is provided by Hardin County Animal Services. They can be reached at (731) 925-3303. More information can be found HERE.

Q: Are building permits required?

A: Yes. Permits are required for new construction as well as any structurally associated alterations. See the Community Development Department page for more information and to download a permit application.
