Precautionary Boil Water Notice – Jan 24, 2024

Boil Water Notice Lifted

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
FROM THE SAVANNAH UTILITY DEPARTMENT WATER SYSTEM
TN0000611, HARDIN COUNTY
JANUARY 24, 2024

Update: Wednesday, January 24th, 2024
6:30 PM

Testing of the water system is complete. As of 6:30 PM, Wednesday, January 24, 2024 the PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER NOTICE has been lifted for all affected areas.

Update: Wednesday, January 24th, 2024
11:30 AM

The boil water advisory for areas within the city limits of Savannah, TN INCLUDING Belmont Street has been lifted.

All other service areas remain under the advisory. We are currently collecting samples for the remaining areas. As a reminder, it takes a minimum of 24 hours to run tests on the samples. We will notify customers when clear results have been received. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Water line breaks resulting in a loss of system pressure can introduce disease-causing organisms into the water system. As a precaution, water customers in the affected areas are advised to boil their water prior to using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Customers should take the following steps:

Prior to boiling, all water should be strained through a clean cloth to remove any sediment or floating material. Heat water to a vigorous boil, let it boil for three (3) minutes to ensure disinfection, and let it cool before using.

The Savannah Utility Department is actively repairing the line break. Once system pressure is restored, bacteriological tests will be conducted throughout the system. When tests show no bacteria, the department will notify customers that the water is safe and rescind the Precautionary Boil Water Notice. We anticipate resolving the problem within the next 48 hours.

Please share this information with other Savannah Utility Department water customers, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

For more information, please contact the Savannah Utility Department at 731-925-4216 or TDEC-DWR in Jackson at 731-512-1300.
