Connie Bain of Savannah, TN, will be our January Featured Artist of the Month for the “Art in City Hall”. Her exhibit will begin January 7th until the 31st with the opening on the 7th from 5 pm until 6 pm at Savannah City Hall, 140 Main Street, Savannah, TN. Light refreshments will be served.
Connie has had an interest in art her entire life. She began drawing as a young girl. Her fifth-grade teacher, Marshal Jennings, bought her first set of paints. He encouraged her to paint. However, it was 40 years before she felt like she had the time to take up the hobby of painting again.
The first painting she did was in 1999, The Russ Hotel, that stood in Clifton, TN. She sold signed and numbered prints from the original painting. She says her signature painting is Harbour Pitts Store. The store print reached across the United States and into three foreign countries. The old store touched a multitude of lives. Everyone that purchased a print of the store has their own special memories.
She is a self-taught artist and seems to learn something new with each new painting. She enjoys painting old landmarks in our County and surrounding Counties. Connie says, “When I paint something historical, I feel like I am preserving a little bit of history”.
Her hopes are “when she is gone I will have left a legacy of something worthwhile on canvas.”
ART; It’s not what I do, it’s what I am.
