Notice to Customers of the City of Savannah Water Utility
In the coming weeks, the elevated water storage tank located on Jackson Street will undergo routine maintenance. Part of this maintenance requires the tank to be drained and removed from service for up to thirty (30) days. Customers may experience fluctuations in pressure and/or temporary water discoloration during this time.
Fluctuations in Pressure – Pressure regulating devices have been installed on several fire hydrants around the city. These devices help maintain a consistent pressure by releasing excess water. However, minor fluctuations in pressure are expected. Customers that experience excessive pressure or a complete loss of pressure, are asked to contact the Savannah Utility Department at (731) 925-4216 so personnel can investigate.
Discolored Water – While the tank is out of service, changes in water system flow patterns could result in discolored water. This is a temporary condition and does not indicate the presence of harmful contaminants. Though discolored water in not harmful, customers should run cold water through a faucet for five minutes or until the water is clear before using it to cook, drink, or wash clothes. If discolored water persists after running cold water for five minutes, please report it to the Savannah Utility Department.
Please share this information with other Savannah Utility Department water customers, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
The Savannah Utility Department thanks you for your cooperation and patience while this important maintenance is performed.
